Double R's Eco Nature Tours are located at Port of the Islands Resort.
The two and a half hour eco-nature tour starts in the heart of the Everglades. The eco-nature tour includes twenty to thirty minutes of manatee viewing and then takes us out into the middle of the estuaries of the Ten Thousand Islands to observe the wildlife inhabiting the largest mangrove jungle in the United States of America.
Many of our clients representing 27 different Countries around the World are amazed at the natural beauty of this very unique eco system. You're likely to see manatees, alligators, dolphins, and turtles, as well as many species of rare and endangered tropical birds'. Some of the tropical birds species are the Ibis, Egret, Great Blue Heron, Osprey, Pelican, and the American Bald Eagle.
Our Eco Tour is fully narrated by knowledgeable local Captains and our 32' pontoon boat is stable, comfortable and USCG approved to hold up to 35 passengers. You'll learn interesting facts on the history of the area and the unique wildlife you will encounter.
We want our guests to feel comfortable so we suggest you bring with you sandals or flip flops, cameras and polarized sunglasses to help view the manatees. We provide bottled water but encourage you to bring any other snacks or beverages you would like. The Port of the Islands marina has a general store should you forget anything.
Although we see manatee and wildlife 99% of the time everything in nature is governed by the seasons and weather. Every month has its special wildlife and nature viewing opportunities, and sometimes you will be able to watch the same seasonal rituals for a period of weeks or months.
Such as ospreys nesting in old trees or man-made platforms or alligators sunning on the banks.
In Florida, wildlife and nature viewing requires subtlety, time and patience. While there are no guarantees animals and nature will abide by their normal internal clocks--millennia-old time schedules most of us still know little about although always fun to go look.
And learn a little about these natural events and history of the area along the way. It's never the wrong time to enjoy Florida on the water.
